About Me:

I have been developing and maintaining websites for charitable organisations since 1999 and have done this in a full-time capacity since 2002. These organisations were Disability Alliance (DA) and Disability Rights UK (DR UK). I was also responsible for posting to the Office for Disabilities website as well as social media for all these sites (chiefly Facebook and Twitter).

I am used to using Drupal and Wordpress and have some experience of HTML.

Both of these charities were pan disability, when providing information and advice from a benefits, rights and social care point of view. I have experience of diabetes issues from this viewpoint and also have friends and family who have/had diabetes.

My writing as website editor had to be tailored to a broad spectrum of visitors. These included interesting news items suited to a general audience with little or no knowledge of the subject area, benefits factsheets and guides for non-technical readers I have also written more technical information for government committees and advice workers (though even these had to be clear and understandable). I’m also used to providing shorter messaging for social media (Twitter and FaceBook). I have also written benefits training course guides and materials as part of my work at Disability Alliance and the London Borough of Lambeth and guides to posting items on the web and social media at Disability Rights UK.

In addition to writing and posting content I also proofread, edited and posted the content of other teams who needed information posting.

I also wrote copy for and edited the e-news at DR UK and an internal printed newsletter for the London Borough of Lambeth.

I was also responsible for the blogs at DR UK, posting editing and sometimes qhost writing them.

I am used to using Google Twitter and Facebook Analytics to monitor and troubleshoot web and social media reach. I also used the results to set visitor and customer satisfaction targets for our KPI’s.

I have a great deal of experience of working with and advising different audiences ranging from managing staff, presenting training, talking at disability charity conferences, working with other team members, liaising with customers and web developers and advising members of the public, including people with disabilities. My web and advice work also involved liaison with other organisations and contact with MPs councillors etc. I am also pretty self sufficient and goal driven and can work on my own when necessary.

At Disability Rights UK:

I increased site visitors from nil to a total of 1.6 million visitors a year with over 3 million pages accessed.

I set up an information database of 73 fact sheets and guides covering work support, benefits, social care, education and skills, law, equality and human rights.

I increased our Facebook likes from 2656 likes to 28,678 and our Twitter followers from 9,821 to 53,672.

I redesigned our monthly e-news into a weekly publication and increased subscribers from 4,300 to 20,035.
